Dealing With Resistance

What is that feeling you get when you are about to face change?

Sometimes it’s nerves or fear but sometimes it’s not any one thing and you just can’t seem to put your finger on it….you feel the resistance in your gut, why?

We feel and we think and we think and we feel but how do we sort through all the feelings and the thoughts so we can get to the core of what is?

It’s the uncertainly, the lack of control and resisting the change that is about to happen. It’s a little bit of the control freak in us but also the feeling of being lifted out of your safety zone and into the land of new surroundings and new routines. You know it’s OK to feel this way sometimes and let yourself feel whatever you need to feel. However if it’s getting to the point where it is paralysing you then you need help, support and guidance from your GP and/or a counsellor.

How to breakthrough your defences and resistance?

  1. Fear of change– We are wired to go into “survival mode” when anything threatens to disturb our comfort zones, even if the change will bring growth, progress and happiness. The trick to getting through this is to plan and be super organised so it’s not such a “shock” to the system. Trust the process of life and know that change is a crucial part of life.
  2. You may have been hit by the “What’s in it for me” bug and you’re still waiting to see if it’s a good thing or a bad thing. Again trust.
  3. Start to write a journal it’s a great way to vent and release any feelings you’ve had through out the day. By doing it at the end of the day you are able to have a sound nights sleep without you’re mind wandering into territory that will only fuel the situation not solve it. It also allows you to wake up and start the day with a fresh mind.
  4. Start to meditate– You don’t have to meditate to talk to the “other” side but you can do it to stop your mind. It gives you a chance to listen to your body and not your head. Everything you need to know is already inside you, it’s just that your mind makes so much noise we can’t hear it.
  5. Surround yourself with things that inspire you– It may be a vision board, a picture, a photo or a list of inspiring words. Have this throughout your house and your office so you can tap into that space whenever you need too.
  6. It hard to move forward sometimes when the past is holding us back. But it is behind you now so you are safe to move forward with ease, happiness and forgiveness.
  7. After you write in your journal write down three things that you are grateful for and be in that space.

Affirmation-

In the infinity of life of where I am all is perfect whole and complete. I am safe and everything I need to know is made perfectly clear to me.
